Since 1988, Andrew Irving has provided management and technical operation services for over 3200 live and pre-recorded show operations encompassing live music, corporate events, radio, television, musical & traditional theatre and cruise ship entertainment.

An early passion for live music led to 6 years of live audio production as a mixing engineer and systems technician for shows in venues ranging from nightclubs to Lollapalooza-size outdoor festivals. Event technical direction and production management followed naturally and led to welcome challenges and opportunities while providing a wealth of real-world education and travel.

One such opportunity led to five years of travelling the world with Princess Cruises providing technical and production management services for entertainment venues and musical theatre show operations on multi-venue cruise ships. The theatrical shows, with casts of up to 26 performers, involved the maintenance and operation of complex video, automated rigging, pyrotechnic, conventional/moving head lighting, audio and show-control systems with the aid of a 10-12 person crew.

In 1998, it became clear that Streaming Media offered an exceptional opportunity to take part in changing the face of global communications. An invitation to join Online Broadcasting, a then Vancouver-based webcasting company, offered Andrew the opportunity to tie together all of his years of technical experience in a fast–paced, detail-oriented production environment. At the time, the client base covered four of the major Canadian banks as well as TELUS and a number of other Fortune 500 companies. Webcast production has been an integral part of IMTS’ service offerings ever since.

Salt Spring Island, BC beckoned in 2000 as a means to take the pace down a notch after over a decade spent mostly on the road. The pace was relaxed until Andrew landed a contract gig with Stark Communications, a local destination event production management company, providing technical direction services for large-scale multi-venue corporate events held in Vancouver and the Hawaiian islands.

In the spring of 2003, a gig to webcast the TELUS AGM led to 4 years of contracting with the company’s Executive Communications team to develop, grow and operate their internal streaming video delivery infrastructure as well as eventually manage the technical aspects of and operate their internal digital signage network.
